Nigeria Interior Minister Increases Passport Application Fee

The Federal Government through the ministry of Interior has announced an increase in passport application fees for Nigerians residing within the country, effective September 1, 2024.

This decision is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, ensuring it meets international standards as a credible identification document.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) disclosed the revised fees in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo. According to the announcement, the cost of a 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity will rise from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity will increase from N70,000 to N100,000.

The statement emphasized that the fee adjustments apply exclusively to Nigerians residing within the country, with no changes to passport fees for those in the Diaspora.

The NIS acknowledged that the new fees might pose challenges for prospective applicants but reassured the public of its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and high-quality service delivery. The agency further explained that the increase is necessary to cover rising costs associated with passport production and issuance, ensuring the process remains sustainable while meeting global security and quality standards.

In the official statement, the NIS expressed its dedication to maintaining the quality and reliability of the Nigerian passport, while also striving to deliver top-notch services to Nigerian citizens.
