Osun New Era Lions Club donates food items to Orphanage Home in Osogbo, Embarked on a walk awareness/sensitization on Child’s Pediatric cancer at Igbona Market

Osun New Era Lions Club, a Non-governmental humanitarian organization under Lions International District 404B2 Nigeria today embarked on a Childhood Cancer Awareness Outreach in Osogbo, Osun State capital.

The outreach which took place at the popular Igbona Market was organized to sensitize parents, guardians and the general public on the causes of Childhood Cancer, symptoms and possible treatments.

The club notes that many children in developing countries die from poor diagnosis of childhood cancer which is as a result of late discovery and treatment of non-related illnesses such as malaria.

The club further stated that unlike developed countries where the survival rate of childhood cancer is 80%, it noted that the survival rate in developing countries is as low as 20%.

The club however called on parents and guardians to take cognizance of early symptoms of childhood cancer by noting symptoms which include recurrent anaemia, bone pains, bleeding gums, fever, eye protrusions , lymph nodes swellings, drenching night sweats among others, as observing this symptoms would help in early treatment of the illness.

The club also called on government and well meaning Nigerians to invest significantly in financing researches, enlightenment programmes, cancer screening and patient management, these and many more would help in the prevention of childhood cancer as stated by the club’s Director of Training who is a Medical Doctor, Dr Adesoji Adelekan.

In the same vein, the club paid a visit to the Abiye Orphanage Home in Osogbo where various relieve materials ranging from foodstuffs, toiletries, beverages and several others were donated to the kids in the orphanage.

The President of the Club, Lion Busola Ogundiya encouraged the kids to stay focused in the pursuit of their dreams as they are the future of the country as she presented the relieved materials to the Orphanage Home.
