In a decisive move to restore discipline, cohesion, and internal harmony within the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Chairman of the party has issued a clear directive suspending all forms of governorship campaign activities across party structures. The directive, which extends to national secretary and executive members at all levels, aims to curb the growing tension and internal strife linked to premature campaign activities by governorship aspirants.
Addressing a crucial stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s state secretariat along Osogbo-Gbongan road, Osogbo, on Saturday, the Osun APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, disclosed that no executive member of the party at any level—unit, ward, local government, senatorial or national—is permitted to coordinate or campaign for any governorship aspirant.
Lawal, who met with reinstated local government council chairmen and local party chairmen, emphasized that the directive was necessary to maintain peace and unity within the party as it prepares for the 2026 governorship election.
In Lawal’s words: “Any executive member of our party at all the levels, be it at the unit, ward, local government, senatorial, or national, is disallowed from coordinating for any governorship aspirants.”
He added, “There is a need to inject sanity into our party. The altercations and bitter exchanges emanating from members of the same political family, all in the name of supporting preferred aspirants, are worrisome and embarrassing. Such actions are less than dignifying and pose a serious threat to the collective integrity of our party.”
The chairman warned that the party would not hesitate to sanction any member who violates the directive, adding that the supremacy of the party is non-negotiable.
“No one is greater than the party,” Lawal declared. “We must all submit to its rules and directives. The party has not released any official guideline for the governorship primaries, and whenever such is done, it will be made available openly and transparently.”
National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Surajudeen Ajibola (SRJ) is one of the aspirants eyeing the party’s gubernatorial ticket for the 2026 poll.
