They Hate Me Like Hell, But I’m Still President, Says Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged public criticism of his leadership, stating that despite widespread opposition, he remains committed to serving all Nigerians.

The president made this remark during a condolence visit to Benue State on Wednesday, following a deadly attack in Yelwata community that left over 200 people dead last Friday.

Addressing Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and other dignitaries, President Tinubu urged leaders to avoid fueling internal conflicts that could empower political adversaries.

“They hate me like hell, but I’m here, and I am still the president,” Tinubu said, emphasizing that political leadership will always attract both support and condemnation.

The president reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, stressing that even his harshest critics will be protected under his administration. “I made a promise. I will even protect my abusers and accusers with the principle of democracy, freedom, and prosperity,” he declared.

Commenting on the importance of peace, Tinubu warned against creating openings for division. “The value of human life is greater than that of the cow, and it is only when you open your door for conflict that political enemies will come in. They don’t want you to succeed,” he told the state governor.

Tinubu also revealed that he follows media coverage of his administration and often reflects on the criticisms directed at him. “No matter what I do, they will still abuse me… I learn lessons from some of the critical ones too because I can’t see it all. It is from the mouth of my critics that I will act, to show that I am a performer, not a failure like them,” he added.

The president’s visit comes amid rising concerns over insecurity in states prone to conflicts, particularly in farming communities affected by recurring violence between herders and residents.
