How Governor Ademola Adeleke disappointed me yesterday – By Ismail Omipidan

I have attended two wedding ceremonies with Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State. I have also watched and listened to him speak at wedding receptions. The first one I attended with him was the wedding of Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s son, in August, 2023. He was handed the microphone to speak. Rather than offer words of admonition, he sang and sang. At the end, the MC remarked that he thought my Governor’s talent was limited to dancing, but he never knew he could sing so well too. I wasn’t surprised, as I didn’t expect much more from the governor.

But yesterday, Saturday, August 30, our Governor truly disappointed me for the first time. As Chairman of the wedding reception, he was again given the mic to speak. In his usual style, he started with singing and light dancing. As this went on, I told those at my table that he would most likely sing and then sit down without saying anything meaningful to the couple.

Unexpectedly, our governor disappointed me. After singing, he admonished the couple to ensure they live happily. He also reminded them that life is full of ups and downs and that they must show love and cooperation to weather the storm.

While disclosing that he cut short his US trip so as to attend the wedding, Governor Ademola Adeleke emphasised the place of love and unity in any successful marriage. For the first in three years since becoming the Osun State Goveror, he danced responsibly at the traditional wedding on Friday and at the reception yesterday.
