At Gowon’s Book Launch: Shettima pays tribute to Tinubu for statesmanship

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday, paid glowing tribute to his boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising his statesmanship, trust, and confidence in him.

Shettima made the remarks while representing the President at the launch of ‘My Life of Duty and Allegiance’, the autobiography of Yakubu Gowon. During the event, he recounted how some individuals tried to pitch him against his boss few months after assuming office.

As he was reading the president’s speech at the occasion, Shetimma paused to reflect on the incident. He said “Three months into our swearing in, some people told Tinubu I was planning to kill him to take over power. The President called me and said, ‘Sit down, your people came to me and told me to stop wearing those Shettima’s clothes.’

Shettima added that the President dismissed the claims because they did not add up.

“He told them their story did not make sense because when I gave him those clothes, he was only an aspirant. At that time, he was not yet the presidential candidate, and I was not even going to be the vice-presidential candidate,” he said.

The vice president further noted that some people told the president after the election that he (Shettima) was planning to use the clothes to kill him and take over, adding that “however, Tinubu wore the clothes after that because he is not fetish.”
