Remembering “Osun state, the state of the virtuous “ (Ipinle Omoluabi)

A slogan is a crispy and unforgettable phrase that encapsulates the essence of a brand, organization, or idea.

  1. A slogan should convey the essence of the brand. The mission, vision and core values of the brand should easily be understood or seen through the slogan.
  2. A slogan should distinguish the brand from competitors and stand out in the marketplace.
  3. A well crafted, catchy slogan makes the brand stand out of the crowd and more memorable.
  4. A well written slogan can inspire and motivate customers, employees, or prospects to take action or engage with the brand.
  5. A slogan can distill complex ideas or concepts into a simple, easy-to-remember phrase.
  6. A slogan can create an emotional connection with the target audience, making them more likely to engage with the brand.
  7. A slogan can be used as a tagline in marketing and advertising campaigns, making them more effective and memorable.

Osun in focus:
During the tenure of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, through that of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, “the state of the virtuous” (ipinle Omoluabi) was adopted and promoted as the state’s tag line. As Osun state indigenes, we were very proud of the slogan and trying as much as possible to live up to it.
Within 10-12 years, Osun State was rated as the most peaceful state in the Southwest. That peace is no longer there.
It is unfortunate that the current Osun State government introduced a reform and changed the slogan to “the state of the living spring” whatever that means.
Now that the State anthem has been adopted by all the states in the Southwest, (or the Southwest was the originator of the anthem), I humbly suggest that the governor should revisit this and give us back ‘the state of the virtuous’.
Yorubas say “Oruko omo nii r’omo”
The change in slogan has actually affected the psych of the inhabitants negatively throwing away the “Omoluabi” in them.

“Osun State, the State of the Virtuous” is a great slogan that captures the essence of the state’s values and identity.
“Virtuous” conveys a sense of moral excellence, integrity, and goodness, which are all desirable qualities for a state to embody. The slogan suggests that Osun State is a place where people uphold high moral standards, respect one another, and strive to do what is right.
It also implies that the state is committed to promoting a culture of virtue, which can inspire citizens to be their best selves.

Overall, “Osun State, the State of the Virtuous” is a slogan that inspires pride, unity, and a sense of purpose among the people of Osun State.

The Governor should please take another look at this and give us back the peaceful state that we desire.
