Residents Decry Noise Pollution from Trumax Supermarket, Call on Osun Government to Intervene

Residents of the Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Osogbo have raised serious concerns over persistent noise pollution emanating from the newly established Trumax Supermarket, located beside the Nipco Filling Station.

Since the shopping complex commenced operations, locals say they have endured daily disturbances from blaring music played through loudspeakers from as early as 8 a.m. until almost 9 p.m. The constant noise, residents lament, has disrupted the once peaceful environment of the GRA entrance and surrounding areas.

“It is grossly unfair,” said a visibly upset resident. “Even lounges and entertainment spots don’t play music this consistently. We live here, and we deserve peace.”

According to multiple accounts, the supermarket’s sound system operates non-stop every day, making it difficult for residents—especially the elderly, students, and remote workers—to concentrate or rest. Several community members described the situation as unbearable and have called on the Osun State Government to urgently intervene.

They are specifically appealing to the Ministry of Environment and other relevant authorities to enforce environmental and noise pollution regulations and restore sanity to the area.

“The peace of our neighborhood should not be sacrificed for commercial gains,” another resident added. “We’re not against businesses growing, but it must not come at the expense of our mental and emotional well-being.”

At the time of filing this report, no official response had been received from the management of Trumax Supermarket or the Osun State Ministry of Environment.
